summer's end

from the looks of my blogreader, today is the last day of summer states side.

summer, although you found me away from ruggy for FIFTY TWO FRIGGING DAYS, i did have some love for ya.

beautiful music to sing.  new friends.  new gins.  a metric ton of late night sewing hours.  a nearby joann's with stupid crazy pattern sales, where i picked up vogue 1307 for $2.99.

unable to bear my jealousy over kazz the spazz's fantastic jumpers any longer, i cut these pants out in jersey from my dangerous dallas garment district trip...

...and added two rectangles for the top.  elastic casings at tip & toe to cinch it all up, no zipper needed since there's plenty of stretch.  and by the by, PLENTY of ease, even in a woven: if you're making this pattern, sewist, beware.  my much-hacked-muslin only survives because it's black and gold. the Thong Song plays full blast whenever i sport those puppies.  hey man, fall finds me back with ruggy, and it's steelers season.  you do what you gotta.

ah well, a little ease is okay.  all the better for drinking gin and eating hot dogs.

and perfect for languishing in 108 degree texas heat.

bye, summer.  love you.  mean it.  welcome, fall.  it's grand to be back.

  20. No hardship saying goodbye to Summer here - never really had one, except for scattered week-long periods of swealtering heatwaves. For the most part it's been heaven for an Autumn loving gal like myself! *lol*

  25. Oh man, I miss you already Marce. DAMN THIS DISTANCE! Love your 70's peacenik vibe here - only you could prevent it from looking too hippie-tastic, just cute and summery. It's already freezing here and your bare shoulders are making me so sad since my shoulders will not be seeing the sun for a good 6 months. Sigh.

  27. It is supposed to go up to 81 this weekend here? Wanna visit? Please say yes! We can go fabric diving and then head back to my neighborhood for a festival (block party style w/ beer gardens). I am having a little bit of Oona withdrawn, is it obvious?
This jumper is super cute on you. I know ruggy gave you the eye, but I bet they are comfy.

  28. Amazing! As always. :)

Can't wait for coat pics. Let's break them out!

  29. Gorgeous jumpsuit! You'll be super happy with it next summer! Can't wait to see what fall/winter sewing plans you've got going on..

  30. Woohoo! Dear Oona, so sorry we missed each other this summer, but ya know it is such a huge state. And now you really know how the heat seems to carry on forever. (It went back up today...) Which is why jumpers like this are awesome! The less fabric on the body the better, but with style! I seriously lost my fashion groove this summer and can't wait for cooler weather to come.
p.s. gin & tonics are my fave summer drink. I always feel so boring when I order it, but it hits the spot when it's so damn hot!

  34. I'm late to the party. Just got here from your latest harem pants post. I love this romper, but when I clicked that link to Vogue 1307, I collapsed on the couch ala Fred Sanford. That sticker shock! GIRL. NO. Good on you for snapping it up under 3 bucks!
