seductive sleeves

ooooh aren't i pretty.  i think soooo much of myself.  i am the most beeyootiful girl in the whole wide world!  you love me!  you want to marry me!  YOU KNOW IT!

just look at my cute little sleeves, they are so coy, so flirtatious, they tempt you with their unexpected pleats, you didn't even see them coming and now you can think of nothing else!!!

never mind the fact that i probably put them in backwards which resulted in an armsyce (that's armhole for you laypeople) that's lower than the dead sea.  just never you mind that, lovey!

wooooeeeee and wider than the grand canyon.  avert your burning hot gaze!  look, instead, upon the pleats!  the delicious pleats!  THEY ARE EXQUISITE!  aaaaaah, le sigh, you are too entranced by the sight of unintended flesh: is that an arm bulge?  is that her back?  armpit cleavage?  that is SO hot.

I SAID I KNOW YOU LOVE IT!!!

now, i made this about two weeks ago, and i do wish i could remember if the extreme dip is the fault of the pattern or the fault of the gin...so maybe y'all can tell me.  anyone out there tried this diddy?  don't get me wrong, i lurve it, i'm keeping it, i've rocked it not once, but twice in public now, leaving people lying in my stunning wake because I AM AWESOME I THOUGHT WE ALREADY ESTABLISHED THAT, but maybe i'll just raise that curve a li'l bit next time we dance.

(although it is a little snug. i may have dried it on hot while i was on vacation.  i guess i could wear it soaking wet and try to stretch it out again--)

I'VE GONE TOO FAR.  STOP DROOLING.  GO TAKE A COLD SHOWER.

notes of notish notiness:

pattern: simplicity 2337, of the project runway line
fabric: medium weight sweaterey jerseyish knit from the ever janky, ever closing It's A Material World
notions: twin needle, jersey needle
tips: don't dry sweater knit on hot.

really, if you replace any "you" song with "i", and sing at the top of your lungs, it's an instant attitude adjuster.

Pleated sleeves take center stage, everyone just watch out!
(A collective moan of envy rises from the long-sleeves, the 3/4 sleeves, not to mention the sleeveless...)

You do realize that you did it, right? No, it's not a blue dress. but it is one color and I am cheese-ball smiling for you.

  20. I'm so excited!!! I literally just arrived home from buying that pattern today ;) It is beautiful on you!!! Love to see it made up and it really is a very pretty dress. So glad I decided to purchase that pattern today!!! Thank you so much for the funny post too. You always make me laugh and I needed it today after the snow and all the mean people out today. I literally saw a woman next to me leave her shopping cart behind the car next to her and the poor girl almost backed into the cart before I caught her. I did not notice her in the car so I was finishing up packing my car before moving the cart. People are crazy...Thanks for making my day a little lighter and making me laugh :)

there's a metric ton of mean people out in NY lately. it's the cold & the loss of an hour's worth of daylight, methinks.

  21. I made that pattern, and the extreme dip is part of the pattern. I was really excited about the sleeves, but the dip was more than I wanted (and more than the pattern envelope showed), so I adjusted my placement some to try to mitigate it. Still pretty dipped, though, but I'm happy with how it turned out.

    Love your version! Great color!

    1. AH! thank you!! i really want to make this one again, i'll adjust the pattern next time (instead of repeating the same exact mistake, which i would have done had you not shared...)

I am surprised that you made a solid colored dress, which looks amazing and allows the sleeves to shine. I love the texture of the fabric as well. Well done! I think I might have to give this pattern a try.

  32. A few things...

    1. Didjah hear that? That's the sound of you giving life to eve-r-y-body!

    2. Thank you for explaining what an armsyce is. I heard it the other day and was like, "What did you call me?!?"

    3. Forget décolletage. The sexiest skin to show is now arm cleavage!

Now excuse me while I call your father to ask for your hand in marriage...

  33. I love this and I usually don't like pleats or big shoulders (mostly because I have big shoulders). Is that a sweater knit, it looks so much more polished - love that too!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. i was against the sleeves for that very same reason, mine are pretty square (shoulderpads are not my friend) so this was a surprise! also a surprise: the sweater knit, because of course i'm guessing there....

      Delete
    2. Well, then I might just have to try this pattern since shoulder pads are also not my friend.

I don't comment often but I have been reading all your posts - it's so fun to watch your evolution as a seamstress. Sometimes I even look at fabric and think, Oonaballoona would love this fabric.

  35. I can't take my eyes off of you...not because of the pleated sleeves (which are wonderful, by the by), or the armscye (which seems a bit low, but not absurdly so), but because you are wearing a solid color. I don't think I've ever seen that before!

  45. Love it! This pattern is so pretty--flattering too! Be careful not to scare away Material World though.
